Mr. Al Gullon has both Bachelor of Science and Professional Engineer degrees. His work experience includes 12 years as a motor transport officer in the Canadian Air Force, and 23 years for Environment Canada as the chief of motor vehicle emissions in addition to various technical management positions with that department.
Al retired in 1996 and embarked on a third career as an automotive journalist. Prior to retirement he had spent five years managing a program which assisted small businesses in the development of innovative recycling technology. In his off-hours Al has been nosing around in economics.
Aware that only ‘official’ data makes it into the national statistics, Mr. Gullon has made a point of going ‘where the action is’, to talk with traffic police and to observe the roadways from which the data was recorded. Roughly 65,000km were driven in rental cars in Europe, Osaka, Sydney, Melbourne, New Delhi, Beijing, as well as travels in Korea, Australia and Russia. Mr Gullon’s research has resulted in 10 papers (SAE, FISITA, ITS) in venues all around the globe.
